PLEASE READ AND SHARE!! NYC, SHELTER "ATROCITIES" ARE HAPPENING DAILY!! IT MUST STOP......

A report from the Manhattan Shelter today:  Since Emily Tanen was fired, there is only one person in the New Hope rescue department on most days, and today that person called out sick.  Meanwhile, Ellen Curtis, the boss of NH as the Placement Coordinator, and the woman who on her sixth week on the job fired Emily Tanen -- is on vacation!  Everyone raise your hands if you think the company you work for would allow you to take a vacation in your second month on the job.  The result?  Not a single plea sent, dog placed, rescue contacted or dog pulled.  Rescuers were desperately emailing volunteers to ask them for help.

The condition of the kennels was even worse.  To save money, Park Place understaffs the shelter, leaving huge portions of the shelter to be cleaned by ONE underpaid man or woman.  So, dogs and cats sit in their uncleaned cages for an eternity, with no hope at all from the New Hope office, now perpetually dark and empty.

Would you care for two examples of what happens when no one who cares works in the New Hope department?  A four month-old puppy named Lenny (A897359) ends up on the Euth list (for Monday night) because no one bothered to place him.

Can it get worse?  How about this: the shelter has put a mother named Mandy on the list for Monday night, along with her 7 puppies!

They all have ringworm, and no one in New Hope bothered to speak up and find a rescue group.  Essentially, whoever bothered to name each of these puppies did more work than the combined efforts of Ellen Curtis and the shambles that is the remaining New Hope department.

We hope you sleep well tonight, Julie Bank; take the day off tomorrow -- you earned it.

When will the ACC start to CARE about the animals in it's "shelter"?  The world is watching, Julie.... What are you going to do?

For those that want to contact the officials that can change the state of this shelter (but are turning a blind eye), please go to my website.  There is a form you can fill out that will auto email all officials, or there are links to each individual email address.  http://www.urgentdeathrowdogs.com/how-you-can-help/how-togroup1/act.html
(some email address may bounce back due to incorrect info on the contact pages.  We are working on correcting this and if anyone has the correct address, please email me)

West Virginia Man Brutally Tortures and Kills 29 Dogs to Abuse Ex-Girlfriend

In another shocking case showing the link between domestic violence and animal cruelty, a 19-year-old man in West Virginia was arrested last week. The charges include domestic battery, kidnapping and 29 counts of felony animal cruelty.

Jeffrey Nally, Jr. held his former girlfriend captive in their home since December and proceeded to physically and sexually abuse her. Apparently that wasn’t enough. Beginning in January, Nally also tortured and killed 29 dogs, most of them puppies. He made his ex-girlfriend watch the horrendous murders, then forced her to clean up the mess.

Three puppies were found alive when a SWAT team converged on the house. They were slated for death following acts of torture. Luckily, they have a renewed chance for a happy life and already have been adopted into new homes. Along with the 29 other dogs, these puppies had been obtained from classified ads for free or very little money.

I would imagine the owners of these pets thought they had found a loving forever home for their pups, instead of the fate that all-too-often awaits free-to-good-home pets. As Nally was under house arrest for violating previous convictions, the dogs had to be dropped off at his house. Some of the dogs were littermates. One of the rescued puppies, a black lab, had siblings that weren’t so lucky.

The victim’s mother contacted police after Nally threatened to kill any police officer who approached the house, along with himself and the captive woman. After Nally was arrested, police used a search warrant to investigate the property. What they found is indescribable.

Many of the dogs had sustained injuries from blunt force trauma, gunshot wounds and snapped necks. Some were skinned or otherwise mutilated. Nally tried to hide the evidence by burying the dead dogs in the backyard. Police also uncovered the weapons used to torture the dogs, everything from hammers and drills to crossbows and guns.

How a person can willingly inflict so much pain on another living being for the pleasure of making someone else watch is beyond me. Nally is a repeat offender when it comes to terrorizing women, with a 2010 conviction for domestic battery.

People like Nally will continue the pattern of abusing both women and animals in the future. They are the reason so many communities are pushing for animal abuser registries. Hancock County Chief Deputy Todd Murray told local WTRF news that he believes it would only be a matter of time before Nally would get bored killing animals and move on to humans.

A push by concerned citizens is mounting across the U.S. to seek stiff sentencing for Jeffrey Nally, Jr. In addition to the charges of misdemeanor domestic battery and felonykidnapping, the penalties for felony animal cruelty in West Virginia can carry a sentence of 1-5 years and a fine of $1,000-5,000 dollars, per count. Nally could also be prohibited from owning any animals for 15 years from his conviction.

Send a letter to Prosecuting Attorney James Davis and Circuit Court Clerk Brenda Jackson asking the court to remain firm when convicting and sentencing Nally for his crimes.

Irish Daily Mirror Expose Animal Experiments in Ireland, Again!

Dear ARAN Members,

Please see below an almost half page 'Exclusive' by the Irish Daily Mirror into animal experiments at the University College Dublin which has been outed for spending €240,000 on animal experiments including mice, rats and frogs. Dogs are also used in Irish experiments which most people would not be aware of. In the article, ARAN called on universities across Ireland to abandon their outdate use of animals in experiments and called for more modern, sophisticated and reliable research that does not involve any animals.

However, we have cause for serious concern. Behind the scenes ARAN are working on gathering more information about big plans for animal experiments in Ireland, along with a facility specifically set up to coordinate animal tests on a big scale not yet seeing in this country, we will be releasing details in the near future.

Keep up the good work of fighting bad, with good. Together we are making a difference, but can only be as effective as the help and support you give.

Animal Control in Columbus GA is COMPLETELY full and killing animals

Dear Members,

We can't believe the subject line heading either. We've just learned that RISE! - the pro-hunt campaign group here in Ireland has been shortlisted to receive an award from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII) for their 'successful campaign' during 2010 with the Ward Union hunt legislation fight - which has since been banned! ARAN has contacted the PRII to advise that the RISE! Campaign was far from successful as the cruel stag hunt was banned on grounds of animal welfare and if anything the RISE campaign consisted mainly of lies and playing with facts and figures whilst been heavily funded from developers and wealthy business people, it was a complete shambles if anything. The awards ceremony will take place at the Conrad Hotel, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2 with dinner and drinks from 12noon on June 16 – that's right, dinner and drinks for the those at RISE! who in our view get saddistic kicks out of tormenting and hunting a gentle, innocent animal.

ARAN needs all our supporters from across the country to inundate the Public Relations Institute of Ireland's CEO Gerry Davis with emails and polite telephone calls of protest to encourage him to drop RISE! from the nomination. We cannot overly state how important it is that you take action, once finished please be sure to send ARAN a copy of your email so that we can track the volume of correspondence.

YOUR ACTION WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE – EMAIL AND IF POSSIBLE CALL THE PRII TODAY!

Finished emailing? Take a quick moment to tell the PRII how disgusted you really are with them for including a group that fronts blood sports on their nominations list, tell them to remove RISE! as a matter of urgency, call (01)-661 8004 and outside of Ireland +353-1-6618004

We're again asking all our supporters to please email the PRII and urge them to take RISE! off their nominations list, we must not allow RISE! to be publicly thanked for fronting the public relations of blood sports in Ireland, a successful vote for RISE! will tell the public that the hunting of Irish wildlife really is acceptable, but it's not. It would also be a real blow for RISE! to be taken off the list, wouldn’t that be music to your ears? We think so and more so music to the ears of many of Ireland's gentle wildlife.

As always, keep up the good work of helping to stop cruelty to animals and thank you for your ongoing, loyal support that enables us to be a national voice for all animals.

P.S. This time last year we were in the middle of an active campaign to help push through the Green Party legislation to ban the Ward Union hunt. Please see below two videos of our demonstration outside of Dail Eireann with roughly 120 campaigners and some news coverage of the campaign. ARAN thanks all campaigners and groups that played an active part in making this legislation a huge success.

Urge IGB to Abandon Greyhound Racing in China Plans

Dear Supporters,

Please see below an article in today's Irish Daily Mail in relation to the 37 Irish celebrities that have spoke out against plans by the Irish Greyhound Board's proposed racing venture in China. ARAN would like to thank the work of Irish celebrity and singer, Sharon Shannon, for working hard to get the celebrities to speak out against the proposed plans. Click here for their letter in yesterday's Irish Times. In an interview with the Irish Daily Mail yesterday, ARAN backed calls for the CEO of the IGB, Adrian Neilan, to step down as a matter of urgency in relation to him overseeing this wreck-less plan that in another way, has given more spotlight to the immense suffering and cruelty associated with greyhound racing than what any animal protection group could have asked for. One email to ARAN yesterday called it 'An own goal'.

YOU CAN STOP THE IGB PLANS, TAKE EFFECTIVE ACTION TODAY!

Email the CEO of the Irish Greyhound Board, Adrian Neilan, and ask him to step down as a matter of urgency for overseeing this wreck-less plan of greyhound racing in China -- a country that has no human rights laws -- let alone animal protection laws. However, we know that greyhounds from Ireland won't be sent there now, but, the IGB want to oversee and run greyhound racing in China.
Click here for an Irish Times article on the venture, which is looking increasingly likely.

Send your polite email to adrian.neilan@igb.ie and be sure to CC' in your email the following, Simon.Coveney@agriculture.gov.ieShane.Mcentee@oireachtas.ie, and if possible, forward ARAN a copy so we can track the volume of correspondence.  Be sure to forward this email far and wide to generate maximum campaign pressure to help our greyhound friends.

Thank you for all you are doing to fight animal abuse, together we can make a big difference.

P.S. This weekend The Irish Sunday Mirror will be running an article on animal experiments in Ireland, please be sure to check it out.

We are currently working on developing a brand new ARAN.IE website, once launched, we will be releasing a new round of hard-hitting campaigns, effective actions, lively demonstrations, so be ready for a summer of action for animals. We are also working on possible plans to hold our national march and rally against cruelty to animals in Dublin, if you would like to see this happen, please email us your ideas and feedback, we'll be letting all supporters and groups know in the coming months.
